Co-founders Yannick Colaco and Prasana Krishnan have created FanCode, a sports streaming platform, with a focus on bringing non-mainstream sports tournaments to the forefront. They believe that smaller tournaments can be successful even without millions of viewers and have tailored their platform to cater to niche sports events.

FanCode initially concentrated on building cricket as its primary vertical, hosting thousands of live sports events, including 4,500 cricket matches in 2022. The platform aimed to offer a seamless viewing experience, addressing issues such as stream quality, camera angles, replays, graphics, and scoring accuracy.

Recognizing the importance of mobile viewership, FanCode also prepared for network issues and introduced features like quick replay. They offer commentary in various languages for specific tournaments and provide an option to listen to commentary only, similar to YouTube Premium.

Beyond cricket, FanCode plans to stream around 20,000 sports matches, with a focus on expanding into other sports verticals. They have already started streaming tournaments in new sports categories.

FanCode places a significant emphasis on women's sports, having streamed over 500 live matches of women's events across various sports in the previous year. Currently, they are streaming tournaments such as the Women’s Super League (WSL).

In a strategic move, FanCode partnered with Google Cloud to access consumer data and enhance fan engagement. This collaboration aims to match audiences with relevant sports content and create engagement through personalized merchandise, content, and commerce.

FanCode also values customer feedback, which led to the introduction of micro-pricing subscription packs. Users can choose from tour passes, match passes, or monthly passes, with prices starting at Rs 69. These prices are dynamic and may change based on tournaments.

The platform's goal is to attract and engage users across all age groups while building new verticals. While targeting sports viewers of all ages, they have seen significant engagement from users between 18-24 years old. FanCode competes with other streaming platforms like JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar, and Sony, and it operates in the growing sports fantasy games market.

FanCode's innovative approach to sports streaming is helping it carve a unique niche in the industry, focusing on the diverse world of sports beyond the mainstream.
